On 1 April 2020, a new kind of organisation will be created. Over time, it will bring together on-job, on campus, and online vocational learning and training in a cohesive, unified system.

It is the first time in New Zealand’s history that a national network of provision has done this. And it is driven by a desire to deliver quality, consistency, accessibility, and mobility for learners, staff, and employers.

The transition to a fully functional national Institute will take some time. As we take the next step on the journey we need a name.

We need a name that reflects the Institute’s identity – not just what it does, but who it is, where it has come from, and where it is going.

A name that is for all learners, all employers, all staff, all New Zealand.

A name that communicates to learners from overseas the mana and unique heritage of the land they choose to study in.

On 30 January we announced that our preferred name was Pūkenga Aotearoa. We were guided by recognised experts in te reo Māori, and received input from learning providers that included extensive learner research.

We shared this video to start a series of conversations around New Zealand. We wanted to hear people’s thoughts in person and now we want to capture that feedback online.

We invite everyone to register and have your say. Rēhita mai, kia kōrero mai.
